It’s obvious that Pixar’s grasp of technology keeps improving by leaps and bounds — you can mesmerize yourself just thinking about the time that went into animating each bendy strand of Sulley’s bristly fur. But that’s hardly the point, now is it? Monsters, Inc. is a little louder, a little less emotional than A Bug’s Life or the Toy Storys, but the dropoff is practically infinitesimal. It’s as if every one of the scores of Pixar employees who laid hands on the project contributed some little joke or nuance, and they all magically fit together into one practically seamless whole. Monsters, Inc. is a full-page ad for the genius of the system
